Overview of the Center
Former Director: Prof. Yuan Wei
Professor, School of Statistics, Renmin University of China;
Former Executive Vice President of Renmin University of China.
Prof. Yuan Wei is a nationally recognized expert with outstanding contributions. He was selected for the Ministry of Education’s inaugural “Program for Outstanding Talents of the New Century,” received the titles of “National Excellent Teacher” and the Capital Labor Medal, and is a recipient of the Special Government Allowance awarded by the State Council.
He previously served as a member of the 4th Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council and as the Convenor of the Applied Economics Discipline Review Panel of the 5th and 6th Academic Degrees Committees. He currently serves as the Convenor of the Statistics Discipline Review Panel of the 7th Academic Degrees Committee. In addition, he is a member of the Economics Division of the Ministry of Education Social Sciences Committee, a reviewer for the National Social Science Foundation, an advisory expert for the National Natural Science Foundation, an advisor to both the China Statistical Society and the China Statistical Education Society, and the Executive Deputy Director of the National Steering Committee for the Master of Applied Statistics Program. He is also an elected member of the International Statistical Institute (ISI).
Former Deputy Director: Prof. Li Lulu
Professor, School of Sociology, Renmin University of China; "Changjiang Scholars" Program Distinguished Professor.
Prof. Li Lulu is a recipient of the State Council’s Special Government Allowance and serves as Chair of the Sociology Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education. He has been recognized as a “National Outstanding Contributor to Textbook Development.”
His research covers social stratification and mobility, organizational sociology, social modernization, and social transformation. He has authored numerous books and published over one hundred academic articles, and has led major research projects funded by the National Social Science Foundation and the Ministry of Education.
Prof. Li is the founder and principal investigator of the Chinese General Social Survey (CGSS), which has played a pivotal role in promoting data openness and sharing in China and has generated substantial academic impact.
Former Deputy Director: Prof. Peng Fei
Professor, School of Statistics, Renmin University of China;
Research Fellow, Center for Applied Statistics;
Part-time Research Fellow, Swiss Federal Statistical Office.
Prof. Peng Fei’s research interests include China development index compilation, data analysis, and actuarial science. He has authored or co-authored four monographs and textbooks and has published more than 50 academic papers. He has twice been invited to conduct joint research with the Swiss Federal Statistical Office.
He previously served on secondement as Deputy Director of the Population and Social Science & Technology Statistics at the National Bureau of Statistics.
Former Deputy Director: Assoc. Prof. Wang Weidong
Associate Professor, School of Sociology, Renmin University of China; Board Member of the Chinese Sociological Association and the Chinese Social Psychology Association.
Assoc. Prof. Wang Weidong specializes in large-scale social survey projects. He served as principal investigator of the China Education Panel Survey (2013–2020) and contributed to the Chinese General Social Survey (2003–2019) and the East Asian Social Survey (2006–2018).
He is author of major academic works such as Principles and Applications of Structural Equation Modeling and the Baseline Report of the China Education Panel Survey, and the translator of influential monographs including A History of Social Network Analysis. He has also led public policy and think tank research projects, including Beijing’s municipal solid waste sorting assessment.
In 2021, he was elected a council member of the Association of Non-Party Intellectuals of Renmin University of China. He continues to publish extensively in the fields of educational sociology and health sociology.
Former Deputy Director: Prof. Zhai Zhenwu
Professor, School of Population and Health, Renmin University of China;
Director, Center for Population and Development Studies;
Expert Reviewer for the National Social Science Foundation.
Prof. Zhai Zhenwu serves as Vice President of the China Family Planning Association, a member of the Discipline Review Panel of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, a member of the Expert Committee of the National Health Commission, and Editor-in-Chief of Population Research.
He has long been engaged in teaching and research in population economics, resource and environmental economics, population and economy, population and society, and aging, and has made significant contributions to the field.
